The Ivory Coast, as this nation is better known in the English speaking world, is a west African nation bordering Liberia, Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Ghana. It achieved independence from France in 1960. The last decade has seen much political strife. On the economic side, average income as about $700 a person annually. One of the greatest challenges has been the huge influx of (Muslim) emigrants from Mali and Burkina Faso, in the north.

Spiritually speaking, like every other nation of the world, the Ivory Coast is in the throes of darkness (John 3:19, Galatians 3:22, 1 John 5:19). Over a third of Ivorians are Muslim, under a third claim Christianity, and the balance follow the traditional ethnic religions. In truth, the various faiths blend together and it is difficult to categorize people because of the extreme eclecticism.

Abidjan (4 million) is the principal city of this nation of 17 million. The official capital is Yamoussoukro (175,000).

Would you say a prayer for Côte D'Ivoire today? Also pray that I will be able to raise sufficient funding to visit the country again. It has been several years since the last visit.
