The influence of this nation of 10 million is out of all proportion to its size. Brussels (the capital) contains the Headquarters of NATO as well as the capital of the EU. 55% of the nation is Flemish (speaking a language related to Dutch), while 32% is Walloon (speaking French). The Flemings are in the north and west of the nation, the French speakers generally live in the south and east. The nation is divided in many ways, even though 68% claim to be Christian.

GDP per head in Belgium is US$22,000 (The Economist Pocket World in Figures, 2003). Life expectancy is 76 for men, 82 for women. Adult literacy is 99%. There are 99.2 color TV sets per 100 households. Belgium is affluent, and as is the case with all affluent nations (and persons), it can be hard for people to appreciate their need for God.

Pray today for this secular powerhouse on the international scene. And pray for your brothers and sisters in Brussels, Antwerp, Brugge, and the other cities of Belgium who must resist culture and Mammon in order to see the gospel spread throughout their land.
