Tonga, an island nation, is made up of a cluster of 171 coral and volcanic islands 600 km east of Fiji. The population is approximately 100,000, and the capital city is Nuku'alofa.
Tongans are a Polynesian people, whose official language is Tongan. 95% claim to be Christian (Operation World, 21st Century Edition, 2001)
16% or more are Mormons.
Annual per capita income is about $1800, or 6% of the U.S. level.
