The Gambia is 85% Muslim. In fact, it was here, in the 11th century, that the first black Africans converted to Islam. The 10% minority who claim to be Christian are primarily Roman Catholics, Methodists, and Anglicans. Sadly, biblical knowledge is minimal, and neither Islam nor the nation's dilute form of Christianity have been able to save the Gambia from many political and socioeconomic woes.
