Have you changed your mind about the miraculous gifts? I read an early version of your book The Spirit, or perhaps it was The Powerful Delusion, and I am wondering how your thinking may have developed. —D.D.

NT scholar Craig Keener believes miraculous languages are still here. So do a few other prominent scholars. I have heard “tongues” many times—but they have always sounded fake, not genuine. Certainly many miracles happen every year, and we can't write them all of just to satisfy our theological leanings. But many miraculous claims are bogus, whether in the various world religions or in Christian churches. Many healings today seem undeniably authentic. Claims of prophecy I am less sure about. What exactly is the definition of prophecy?

You will understand my hesitation about claims of supernatural gifts if you listen to these short talks (7 in all). As for my book, I did make a number of changes between The Powerful Delusion (1987, 1989), The Spirit (1998, 2005), and all later editions of The Spirit.
