A friend of mine has experience with helping spirits cross over. She often sees white orbs around her. She’s afraid she may have let something bad out and feels its effects to the point where she has great difficulty breathing. A second friend showed me white orbs flying up and down her staircase—caught on her security camera. Can you tell me anything about these orbs? Are they guardian angels—or something malevolent? My husband and I both saw them on the recording. It had not been doctored. – C. A.

Light reflects off dust particles—a well-known effect, not even a special effect! That and magnetometer readings are standard staples of paranormal “ghost detection,” nothing more. Were the lights turned off when the orbs were ascending?

The upstairs lights were off, I think. But the downstairs ones were on. The friend who helps souls cross over took the pictures during the day. So there was some light coming in the windows. — C. A.

Come to think of it, when I was four years old I clearly remember my own fascination with motes in the sunlight. What were they? And how were they moving, rising, falling, all on their own? (You’ve reminded me of this buried memory only now!)

When light reflects off a small particle, and this is captured on film, it generally appears as an orb. Nothing to fear here. These “orbs” are wholly natural—not supernatural!
