Luke 8:9-10 bothers me. It seems some of us may never see or understand (because God chooses and enables). Yet Matt 7:7 promises that we will seek if we find. Discouraging—especially since I never finished college and am pushing 60! – K.G.
Putting Luke 8 together with Matt 7 we can conclude that we will find if we are willing to find. Matt 7:14 says few find. But Matt 7:7 says “Seek and you will find.” Which can only mean that few are seeking. They will not understand. The beauty of the parables is that they don’t force us to see; we comprehend only if we are open. God respects are right to decide.
This isn’t an intellectual thing. We are to seek first his kingdom. A matter of the heart and will, not the intellect! We’re never too old. I hope these words bring some comfort.
